There were record spikes of coronavirus cases in Canada on Monday. By Sunday evening, Canada had recorded 330,503 positive cases. Out of that number, more than 50,000 were active cases. Canada has also recorded a death toll of nearly 11,500.
The authorities expect the case number to further rise in the upcoming weeks. The onset of the winter season is expected to spike the numbers too. However, with the holiday season fast approaching, the possibility of the virus spreading to a large number of people is a serious concern for the health authorities.
Canada’s Chief Public Officer has already urged the people to keep their shopping to a minimum and practice health guidelines in public places. She has also urged people to not congregate to celebrate the holidays.
Dr Theresa Tam also urges Canadians to host online games and organize virtual meet-ups in order to minimize the gathering of people.
